Leave No Trace.

  1. Plan ahead and prepare.
  2. Travel and camp on durable surfaces.
  3. Dispose of waste properly.
  4. Leave what you find.
  5. Minimize campfire impacts.
  6. Respect wildlife.
  7. Be considerate of other visitors.
  8. Motorized and mechanized equipment is prohibited in Wilderness.

Tell someone your trip plan.

  1. Destination, route, transportation.
  2. When leaving and returning.
  3. Who is on the trip.


  1. Gauge trail difficulty to personal fitness.
  2. Check the forecast.
  3. Proper shoes and clothing (decide cotton, wool, or synthetics). For the summer, take a breathable windbreaker/rain jacket, leather boots, and long quick-dry pants because of often scratchy brush and dusty trails.
  4. Water/food.
  5. Sun protection.


  1. Be off peaks by afternoon to avoid lightning.
  2. Notice where you are. Look back often.
